To help manage user privacy, Google supports a flow to handle cases where the user has exited the setup wizard without accepting the Google Terms of Service (gToS).
Google provides a unique set of prompts giving unconsented users the option to agree to gToS and gain access to all the services available in their infotainment system.
Context
Sometimes, users drop out of car setup flows without agreeing to Google's Terms of Service. When this happens, Google protects user privacy by essentially blocking data communication, preventing them from accessing services such as:
- Maps, Gemini, and Google Play
- Google sign-in
- Some background Google Services
In these cases, Google can proactively send users a short, unique prompt to agree to the Terms of Service, providing them a smooth way back to the consents that give them access to Google services.
Now, with new privacy protections, when users drop out of the setup flow without accepting gToS, data communication with Google is essentially blocked, preventing them from accessing services such as:
- Maps, Gemini, and Google Play
- Google sign-in
- Some background Google Services
The re-entry strategies discussed in this section provide a smooth way to lead users back to the consents that give them access to Google services.
